Federer goes for Slam record vs. Roddick (AP)
A year ago, plenty of people were feeling sorry for Roger Federer. They were sending him letters with good wishes or -- believe it or not -- tennis tips. They were offering advice about how to deal with a perceived drop in performance and ideas for how to beat Rafael Nadal. "If you achieved a lot, like I did, for so many years, and then you don't win some tournaments, people say, 'Oh,...

It wasn't enough to help Los Angeles overcome 22-year-old rookie Everth Cabrera's three RBIs and brilliant defense as the San Diego Padres beat the Dodgers 7-4 on Saturday. Ramirez homered in his second game back from his 50-game suspension for violating baseball's drug policy.

Tiger Woods follows his shot from the bunker on the 15th hole during the third round of the AT&T National golf tournament at Congressional Country Club, Saturday, July 4, 2009, in Bethesda, Md.

Anthony Kim finally gets a crack at Tiger Woods, and when he says he has been practicing for a moment like this all his life, Kim isn't kidding. As a 10-year-old growing up in Los Angeles, in those final hours of twilight as he waited for his father to pick up from the golf course, Kim imagined he was in the final pairing with Woods and had a 10-foot putt for the victory, with the world's...

"It would mean a lot -- the hard work paid off," said Lincecum, who missed last year's Midsummer Classic because of an illness and was hospitalized.
